I Felt Like a Part of the Family Background information: Our local SCUBA shop (Madison WI's Breezeway Bubbles) organized a trip to the Atlantis Dive Resort in Dumagete on the island of Negros Oriental in the Philippines. My husband and I were a part of a group of about 25 people. We left LAX on January 8th (2024) and returned to LAX on January 20th, staying at the resort X nights. Also, for context, we travel internalionally one to thrree times a year (though I've been remiss in writing reviews) and we have stayed at some incredibly swanky places, including The Fairmont - Nile City (link) in Cairo, Egypt, and The Grand Luxxe (link) in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. With regards to diving operations, we have also experienced some first rate diving -- including Pro Dive at the International Occidental Cozumel (link), Reef Divers at Little Cayman Beach Resort (link) and The Res Sea Aggressor IV liveaboard. Again, this information is meant to contextualize my definition high class resorts, hotels, and diving operations (not brag!). By the end of our trips, most of us look rather ragged because we only brought 4 changes of clothes and have been hand washing things in our showers. Combining luxury and SCUBA diving is a complex and difficult goal. In my experience, most SCUBA divers travel with as little as possible -- unless it is dive/camera gear. By the end of our trips, most of us look rather ragged because we only brought 4 changes of clothes and have been hand washing things in our showers. Generally, we are not carrying Birken bags or wearing the latest Hermés summer fashions (but, oh! Is that the newest Shearwater dive computer?). Further, while we do make exceptions, we generally follow a fairly consistent pattern when on a dive vacation: sleep, eat, dive (repeat!). We also tend to prefer smaller resorts, as they provide more tailored offerings, especially regarding the diving. Taking these things into consideration, our definition of luxury is typically more focused on comfort and quality and, well, diving setups.
Atlantis Dumagete provided one of the best on-land experiences I have ever enjoyed abroad. Once you add in the fact that they also have a quality in-house diving operation, it is my view that they have perfected something very few achieve: an unparalleled diving resort! We got
first rate diving, first rate staff, first rate dining, first rate spa offerings, first rate accomodations, and first rate commitment to their guests. Their motto, "come as a guest, leave as a friend" (CHECK) is clearly something they mean and drives everything they do.
The resort itself is a beautiful site tucked away and on the beach. It is a quiet and beautiful slice of paradise. The gardens are phenomenal and the layout takes into consideration privacy, while also keeping the walking distance to the main buildings short and sweet. Everything is impeccable and well cared for.
The pool is a great place to relax, but the spa is to die for (and affordable)! The staff are all incredibly welcoming and extremely competent. Like, I've never had such amazing massages before! They are very professional and really good at their jobs!
Furthermore, the food is AMAZING. For breakfast , you get to order off a very generous menu (the French toast was my favorite!). The lunch and dinner menus change daily and always has four options to choose from, which is really nice if you are picky. And the quality was off the charts! They are also very considerate of any dietary restrictions -- whether for allergies or just preference. For example, I really don't like chocolate (gasp!) and the kitchen and serving staff always remembered and made sure there was some sort of alternative available for me. They also easily accomodated my friend who is a vegan.
My only criticism of the whole resort was that I found the beds to be extremely hard. But the staff helped me problem solve by giving me several of their king sized pillows so that I could make a kind of mattress pad. So, I still got to sleep well!
With regard to the dive operation, I cannot say enough about how excellent they were. They did all of the heavy lifting and made sure to take excellent care of our gear. They even noted certain individual preferences and made sure things were set up just so for us. They were friendly and knowledgeable and I can't gush enough!
Our amazing guide, Cyrus, was so good at finding all of the critters! I swear he had them hidden in his pockets at times! Lol. Just a few examples of the amazing sights we saw because of Cyrus include: we saw a peacock mantis shrimp with it's eggs, watched a Flambuoyant Cuttlefish hatch, found harlequins shrimp, observed a bevvy of wonderpus octopuses, and so much more. Every dive was mind blowing.
The dive center has a very nice setup. They had a great set up for washing and rinsing gear and a great area where we could store our gear overnight. They also had a very nice camera room that was fully equipped with compressed air, 110v and 220v sockets, etc. They bolted the doors and night and I never once worries about my equipment. The entire resort, including the camera room, has security cameras and security staff as well.
My only suggestion here would be to group AM and PM dives together, rather than having to embark and then disembark after every dive. I have always preferred that, as I don't have to change out of my wetsuit,.didn't have to climb in and out of the boat and trudge to shore every time, and all the other things that are more tiring than you'd expect. I think it would also give divers a bit more time to enjoy meal times and the other amenities and maybe build up more energy to attend more dives!
Overall, this place will always hold a special place in my heart and it will always be my go-to choice for the Philippines. 10/10. It was a trip that I will never forget and I will treasure these memories always. Thank you, Atlantis Dice Resort! And thank you to Cyrus, the best dive guide ever!

Where everyone knows your name I traveled to Atlantis Dumaguete with my local dive shop. I have never been to a friendlier resort. The staff went out of their way to make it the best vacation for all of us. They could not have been more helpful or kind in the dive prep area, on the dive boat, in the lobby and restaurant. Even the grounds keeper was so nice and took me to a plant that would bloom at night. The restaurant had wonderful meal choices each day. Breakfast always started with a fruit plate and juice. The tasty food was always artfully presented. It was so nice to always be with the same dive guide, Warfi. I don't think I would have found 98% of the critters without him! I also enjoyed the massages at the spa.
If you are looking for a big fancy glitzy type of place this is not it. It is a boutique resort. It is my type of place. Clean, safe and kind.
If you have bad knees like me, you may want to request a ground floor room ahead of time. The buildings are two stories with stairs.
I would consider breaking my motto of not traveling to the same place twice to come back to Atlantis Dumaguete! It truly was that amazing.

This was my second year in a row that I've gone to Atlantis Dumaguete, dive resort. The service was OUTSTANDING, on ALL aspects of the trip. Everyone was friendly and helpful when needed. The BEST part was having Junnar Kitane, be my private dive master. Junnar took care of all of my needs when diving and at the resort. Junnar was OUTSTANDING in finding the most amazing sea life! This year I hope to go again, and make it 3 years in a row!!!!!

Atlantis is THE place to dive. Their logo, Arrive as a guest, leave a friend, is spot on. The people at Atlantis Dive Resort is what made our vacation a 5 out of 5. Each and every member of the staff goes above and beyond to make your stay exceptional. Our Divemaster, Cyrus, made sure each dive was easy, fun and safe. If you’re looking for a fantastic, clean and friendly place to dive, look no further than Atlantis.

Dumaguete Dive Trip First time to stay in this resort. We booked a beach front room but we didn’t expect that it would be diff from what they advertised in their website and flyers. It definitely deceived us. The wooden floor of the second floor room (which is our ceiling below) is such a disaster. You can hear everything from the guest staying on the top floor every footsteps, talking , laughing and even the snoring during night time. We tried to manage for at least 1 day but good thing on our 2nd day one staff finally had a gut to asked how’s our stay so far and asked how's our room? So we took the chance to tell him it’s not comfortable and it’s too small for us since we have our dive bags full of our dive gear. We transferred to the premier garden suite which is so much better. Shout out to Marco for assisting us and we had a peaceful and better sleep from then. For the dive shop , it’s quite organized. They give you your own space for storing your gears. The dive crew are hardworking. I just hope they should have been more accommodating and smiling and greets you when they see you. Shout out to Genie our dive guide, and Junar the dive manager . The resort has their own Spa inside the resort which is good. Overlooking by the pool. Just a little First time to stay in this resort. The resort has their own Spa inside the resort which is good. Overlooking by the pool. Just a little note , I hope that they will offer their guest after their massage a tea or water which we didn’t experience and also a short explanation of what they are putting on your face when you have facials just so you are aware of all the stuff they’re putting on your face.
The Resto is sitting next to the beach. We love It’s good location. The food is great and delicious no doubt about how their Chef is well equipped with expertise. Albert the Resto Manager is very accommodating. He makes sure your food is well served. The waitress are nice just need to be more attentive especially when it comes to memorizing “the usuals” for long staying guest like us. Since we love having Tabasco on our sides. Hope next time they will not forget to give our coffee whenever we ask for a refill.
Shout out to Lovely at the front desk for extending her hand when I needed some help. I guess I’d better be ready next time if I will go for a dive trip.(bring your own T*mp**s🤭 ) Overall even though it’s a way too expensive dive resort we had a nice stay and we get to experience Dumaguete diving. I always believe that nobody is perfect but there’s always a room for improvement.

A Million+ Star Review! As the group leader and owner of Breezeway Bubbles Scuba, I felt compelled to write a review for Atlantis Dive Resort in Dumaguete. I always send a review to our agent after every trip, but I rarely write one on TripAdvisor. However, the staff at Atlantis Resort deserves more than 5 Stars!
Due to an airline snafu in April 2023, we could not get our group to our scheduled 10 night stay. We were able to reschedule the group in January of 2024.
Upon our arrival, the staff at Atlantis Resort was so friendly and welcoming. They all greeted us by name and even welcomed us back if we were a repeater guest. It did not matter what "department" the staff member was in they knew your name. The quick shoulder and neck massages while listening to the orientation was a nice touch.
Everything was like clockwork; super organized which I appreciate as a group leader. The transfers, dive briefings, excursions, dive boats, check in/out, meals, etc. all happened at the scheduled time. There was no classic "island time" approach that you encounter around the world.
This staff works extremely hard with a smile. They support one another and take the time out to laugh with each other. The management team appears to be supportive working side by side with their employees. No matter what our guests were doing, there was someone from the Atlantis staff asking if they can help.
The diving is what I remembered it (as we were here about a decade ago); exciting muck diving with a combination of reef diving especially when you go to APO Island. Our group chose to do APO twice. Our guides were very enthusiastic about finding all the local critters for us. The dive team emphasized "Safety First," and we appreciated that message throughout the week. Our group had three boats, with my group being assigned one of the speed boats. Warfi, our dive guide was fantastic! He had a passion for Octopus, and you could see his excitement when he found them especially the two blue ringed octopus mating! I always enjoy seeing the dive guides getting excited about finding things underwater; it shows that they love their jobs. Warfi did go above and beyond during our stay with those in our boat. There was some inclement weather that moved in, and he, Donald and the boat staff did an amazing job getting in and out safely. They also carried our gear/cameras at all times. The other boats experienced the same with their guides.
What I found extra special is that your guide stuck with you the entire stay. Whether you were the only one diving from your group and even during the Whaleshark excursion (when I thought they would get a break from leading us). Some of my favorite times during the 10 night stay was hanging out after diving with the dive staff learning about them, their island and culture. Warfi, Marco, Cyrus and a bunch of others were a real joy to get to know.
They hosted educational programming almost every night. Though the programs were not super in depth or long, they did a good job at highlighting the special fish/creatures from the local area.
Our group had various dietary restrictions/needs. The Chef and kitchen staff did an incredible job at catering to all of us. They menu was varied and I appreciated the local cuisine options. It was beautifully presented too! I think the food was one of the group's highlights of our stay. There were some very memorable dishes. The drinks and bar staff was great too! They remembered your names and if you had a favorite beverage. In fact, all the wait staff greeted you with a smile each day.
The Spa staff were delightful and great at what they do! I visited the Spa every night of our stay! I know many others in our group did a similar schedule. Gail, Wilma and Cute were super!
The resort rooms, camera room and gear lockers were all sufficient, clean and operable. Some rooms did not have super hot shower water, but they did their best at addressing those issues by either maintenance or moving the individual. The rooms were nicely cleaned each day, and laundry service was available if needed. The front desk staff was always there and equally helpful as the others were.
There were mentions in other posted reviews about a "bug" that went around to some of our group members. The staff really assisted everyone with meals in their rooms and whatever else they may have asked for. They were always equipped to help their guests.
On the day of our departure, one of our group members fell while packing his suitcase. He ended up breaking his leg in multiple places. The dive team rushed to help him providing oxygen right away. They called an ambulance and carried him on a backboard down multiple stairs to be escorted to the hospital. Harnold (one of the dive staff members) rode along with him. Harnold stayed with him until I was able to get to the Emergency Room with Atlantis Staff member, Adrian. Maribel from Atlantis was diligent on working with Philippines Air so we would not be penalized for not being able to fly with the group.
The Philippines hospital required someone to be there in the room 24/7 as a primary nurse aid to our group member. His family was not with him on this trip, so I stayed back as the group flew home. It was a challenging experience at times with the different ways of doing things in a medical facility that what we are used to in the US. I could not leave his room without someone taking my place or making a statement at the nurses' station (so someone there would step in). Things were lost in translation at times, especially when they expected certain things to be paid in cash in an instant or when I was asked to do some medical responsibilities that were above my knowledge or comfort level (for both myself and Breezeway Bubbles Scuba dive team member). Overall, the hospital did a good job with the surgery and care.
I could not have navigated this extremely stressful situation without everyone at the Atlantis Resort! They provided me transportation to the hospital. They helped with any interpreting needed. They organized a room to store our luggage at a nearby small resort (Sea View Resort the folks there were amazing too!). They relieved me almost daily for a short time so I could shower, change and get supplies. They helped me get the medical paperwork needed to get our medical evacuation in order. Andy, CEO of Atlantis visited us along with Gail our massage therapist. It was nice to see friendly faces and it meant a lot to us. Adrian and his wife, Gypsy shopped locally for medical supplies needed, arranged an ambulance on discharge, organized Tuk Tuk rides for me, arranged last minute airport transfers, helped me navigate billing issues, and truly kept us in a positive light despite everything going on around us.
We never felt alone during this ordeal and forever we will be grateful. When I tried to tip them, they said they were doing it from the goodness of their hearts. I could not accept that, as Adrian and Gypsy were there every day with us for that additional week in the Philippines hospital. Again, they went above and beyond the call of duty.
We did truly leave as friends. We will always be loyal customers to the Atlantis Resorts. I know for a fact, that the level of service and dedication to their guests is super special! I am not sure other resorts would have been with us side by side (at all hours of the day/night) during that situation. I wish I could list every single person by name to thank them they deserve it! A million+ star review!

Pretty sure nobody can outdo Atlantis Resorts If I could give more than 5 stars I would! I don't know where to begin. The grounds are GORGEOUS! This is not some crowded party/night life resort! This is relax and energize territory. The gardener was very proud of his work and friendly. He answered all of my questions and pointed out some hidden gems. I must have taken 1000 pictures of the foliage, flowers and interesting bugs. I stayed as a single occupancy and the room was PERFECT for me. There were toiletries, an in-room safe and the housekeeping was like a secret well oiled machine, I would go on the 0830 dive and come back to a sparkling clean room with fresh water in the fridge. Don't be saddened by the fact there is only one restaurant, the choices are abundant and the food is OUTSTANDING. It is presented so beautifully and the chef really cares about what is served. He visited the tables and I thought that was a nice touch. The entire service staff was never without a smile and they knew your name in less than a day. Shout out to Annie, her positive attitude and endless friendliness made dining all the more pleasant. Max makes a mean mango daiquiri. The pool was welcoming and the spa was GREAT. They offer many affordable treatments. The house staff were very PROFESSIONAL. From signing up for excursions to final check out, they were knowledgeable and friendly through it all. I saved the best for last, buckle up because had I not lived it, I wouldn't believe it myself. The diving is BEAUTIFUL! The sites, including Apo Island offer such unique interactions and being a newer diver, I checked off a lot of "firsts". My first wall dive, my first current dive, etc. But my dive guide, Warfi, was PERFECT! He was attentive and knew right where to look for all the things! Everything from pretty pink mantis shrimp to nudibranchs to blue-ring octopus. Warfi also takes customer service/valet diving to an extreme that I have never experienced before in my life. Same with all of the dive crew, personal escorts from boat to beach, assistance with gear removal including fins, the dive crew offers it all. They escort you in the airport too, in fact I wasn't feeling well while waiting in line in the heat and they found me a chair and one kind gentleman fanned me with a cardboard box. I would 100% return, I 100% recommend.

Best Ever This was the most accommodating resort I have ever been to. The staff were all excellent, personable and very caring. Our dive group of 24 had a bug go around that put us down for 1-3 days at a time. The staff would bring meals to our room, made ginger tea and anything they could think of to help.
The dive staff and guides took excellent care of our gear and completely cleaned, hauled and set us up for each and every dive. Some divers required extra help navigating the surf and small boats, and they tended to every need. The chef was unbelievable. He worked with special vegan and dairy free meals, besides the regular menu (which was awesome). The spa was wonderful, the people could have not been better. One of our group fell and broke their leg on our last day, this would have been a terrible mess without the help and guidance of the staff at the resort. I would love to go back and highly recommend to any diver out there who wants to be completely spoiled in every way!!

An oasis, and best service anywhere So just got back from Atlantis Dive resort Dumaguete. This was a 10 day (there) trip with a group from Madison WI, Breezeway Bubbles. BTW Breezeway is awesome but not the focus of review. This is a fabulous place to go diving if you like muck and reef diving. The staff there are superior to any place I have ever traveled to. They get pictures of you in advance (?drivers license) and each and every staff member knows you by name as soon as you step in. The dive guides are top notch. The spa there is awesome!! Never had massages before but it is such a relaxing and tranquil spa! Inexpensive too. Highly recommend it. I admit not a lot to do there aside from diving. Not much of a swimmable beach. Resort is excellent. The first room (9) I had did not have great hot water. Lukewarm at best. Rest of room was okay. Oldest set of rooms. I was moved to a different room (12) and area and it was perfect! Much nicer bathroom. Great hot water. I saw review that said beds hard. I found beds in both rooms excellent and very comfortable. We did 2 trips to Apo island. True clear water reef diving. Do NOT miss this. Totally worth it. And the buffet lunches they do on boats on these side trips are phenomenal. The food there is very good. Occasional miss. One day I did not like the mushroom risotto and they gave me another main course instead no trouble. The next day the steak and different risotto were fabulous. The point is food is generally excellent and they really work hard to meet your desires. We did a whale shark excursion too and they organized everything. It was awesome too and the beach buffet lunch was amazing again. I was not a true muck diver before, and truly am still not but I saw so much that was amazing. I am so glad I went. Long trip there. I upgraded to business class on way back on Phil Air. It was a memorable and worthwhile experience. The dive facilities are top notch. We had some significant wind while there and getting back in the boats was a challenge at times, but wow are they ever helpful. Dive guides and assistants take care of everything! They even rinse BCDs and set up all tanks. You will never get better service anywhere, and I have dove at quite a few places. Got my 300 dives hat given though I got ill just as I left here and missed a few dives and technically did not quite hit 300. If you like to see nudibranchs, frog fish, pipefish, octopi and a lot of other cool stuff, definitely worth trip. Totally worth it. This resort will exceed your expectations.

Review: Combining luxury and SCUBA diving is a complex and difficult goal. In my experience, most SCUBA divers travel with as little as possible -- unless it is dive/camera gear. By the end of our trips, most of us look rather ragged because we only brought 4 changes of clothes and have been hand washing things in our showers. Generally, we are not carrying Birken bags or wearing the latest Hermés summer fashions (but, Background information: Our local SCUBA shop (Madison WI's Breezeway Bubbles) organized a trip to the Atlantis Dive Resort in Dumagete on the island of Negros Oriental in the Philippines.
