The grounds are designed to be tropical with beautiful and well-kept landscaping and grounds keepers. Every day I saw the friendly ground staff busy cleaning the walkways and plants. The Office staff and resorts Management were always available to check if there were any problems with our stay.
The restaurant staff and food were top notch with amazing choices and always available for special requests. King is an amazing Barista that stunned us with his art on our Lattes each morning. The seating in the restaurant was easily arranged to accommodate our group, so no one felt left out. The meals arrived quickly and changed daily. We were always offered a variety of fish and vegetarian meals with glutton free on request. The biggest problem with the restaurant is the probability of gaining weight when you arrive home.
The dive facility is clean and professional. There is a very nice and large charging area for cameras. The classroom is well set up and air conditioned. The set up for checking your tanks, including your nitrox is professional and well run. The cleaning tanks are kept well cleaned with the water kept fresh by staff. There are two freshwater showers in the cleaning area that serviced all divers very well. Everyone had cubbies and hanging area for their gear. Everyday a fresh beach towel was added to the cubby. The staff was very careful in handling our equipment and each morning I found it set up on my tanks perfect. I am very OCD about my gear and its set up and I felt very secure with how the Atlantis staff handled and set up my gear.
The dive sites were short boat rides from the resort. The Dive Masters all developed excellent repours with my divers and addressed any issues professionally. All my divers developed close trust with the DM’s assigned to them and everyone gave me good comments on their Dive Master’s, and no one requested a change from their assigned Dive Master.
In conclusion, when diving in the Philippines I will always use Atlantis Dive Resorts in Puerto Galera or Dumaguete and their liveaboards. You can depend on them for 5-star treatment at a reasonable rate. They provide everything needed for a fun and safe visit to an amazing dive destination.
Thank you for the wonderful trip, whether you were Front Line Staff or behind the scenes. It was an amazing vacation and the hospitality that you extended was the best I had ever experienced. I have a degree in hospitality and some how the US is loosing in this department. What makes a great experience is the gracious staff and touching on the small things that make everything. Everyone that I encountered smiled, knew my name and did what ever it would take to make my trip memorable. I have traveled a lot, stayed in some gorgeous places, but this has been the BEST I have encountered.
Diving was wonderful, but what made the experience was the great team. Alf was my dive guide and he catered to my every need. He made sure that I had everything before I I even realized I needed it. He was kind and it was like we knew each other for a long time. I also shared with dive guides Genie and King and they were wonderful too. If Alf was not around, there they were to make sure a beat was not missed. I never got to know the rest of the support team that helped on the boat, but they were such hard workers and made sure that all was taken care of.
The Dining at Dumaguete was amazing also. There were so many kind servers, cooks and managers. They made sure that all my dietary needs were met and by the next day they knew my name and how I like everything prepared. My compliments to the chef and the variety of selection.
The Front Desk team and Management at Atlantis Dumaguete were amazing. Oh my, I am not sure how many times they asked me a day how my stay was and was there anything I needed. I was explaining to a few of the Front Desk staff that I was not used to their attentiveness and concern for my every need as in the US service is lacking in most places. I came to appreciate it once again and I thank you! I wanted to make a special thank you to Emily(reservations), Sam and Diana(Front Desk). They went above and beyond when I really needed help. The day before I left I went to confirm my flight and found out on line that it had been canceled. I was in a panic and losing all that wonderful serenity I had gotten on my vacation, when they came to my rescue. The airline did not communicate that it was canceled and I found out on my own. In the States I would know what to do and who to call, but here I was unable to call or reach out to someone. That is when Emily jumped in to rescue. She gave me her phone to call the airlines, but much to my dismay they did not speak very clear english nor get the need for my urgency in flight change. I was so frustrated and almost in tears when Emily helped and took the phone. With her help and about an hour of time Emily was able to get me on an earlier flight and provide a shuttle at the Manila airport to get to International on time. In addition to getting me on an earlier flight they required all my personal documents be sent to them again. That is when Sam and Diana came to help too. I don't know if they ever knew how grateful I was. I had brought cash for tips, but after these ladies help I felt that I did not have enough to show my appreciation. That is when Marco(marketing) intervened. What a nice man. It was like talking to an old friend. He helped me devise a plan on how I could send additional money to these ladies once I got back to the states. In the end I was able to borrow extra cash from one of my dive buddies, and I hope that Emily, Sam, Diana and Alf got the specified dollar amount I wanted them to have.
You picked a great person for your Sales/Marketing, Marco. What a kind, genuine and accommodating individual. What an asset to your Company. Actually, your whole team are assets. I would love to know what your Business philosophy is as I talked to many of the staff there and they stated they have been there 10 to 20 years. I wish that Atlantis energy would spread to the US, because a lot of Americans have lost their way. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
Always,

I’m going to get the one ‘not so great but totally didn’t spoil the trip’ out of the way. Also, please understand we are VERY grateful for the upgrade, it was still the BEST trip to Atlantis we’ve had, this may just be an personal issue for me and others might think it’s not a big deal (and truly, it’s NOT that big of a deal) and we are 100% coming back we just won’t get this room type again. We were lucky enough to get an upgrade to an ocean view room (in previous trips we’ve always stayed in a garden suite, which we’ve loved.) We’ve always wished desperately for some type of dresser in the Atlantis rooms - just not enough shelves in the past stays but we made it work. The ocean front view has a beautiful view for sure, and the sound of the ocean is serene, but it has even less space. The bathroom was half the size of the garden suite baths, and the sleeping area was probably a little less than 2/3 the size of the garden suites. One of my biggest pet peeves when traveling is having to live out of a suitcase I want to unpack and organize everything on shelves/closet/dresser and there was no choice but to live out of a suitcase in this room - basically kept all the clothes outside of a few things we hung in the closet in our scuba roller bag that we then rolled out from under the bed when we needed it. And we aren’t heavy packers - we travel enough that we don’t bring any excess clothing or shoes or anything. We bring the scuba gear and few sets of clothes and swimwear that we’ll need and we use it all. While I loved the ambience of the ocean view, and the breeze definitely helped things dry a little faster on the balcony, I will definitely not request that room again.
Ok, now back to the glowing amazingness that is Atlantis.
Restaurant/bar
Every single meal and every single staff member was phenomenal. Anticipating our drink orders, anticipating our preferences, explaining things, so fast with delivering our bread/drinks/starters and all with the nicest attitude. Albert, Tim, Annie, Allietta, Liza, Rachel (I sincerely hope I haven’t missed anyone and if I did, it’s pure accident) were so so great every meal. The food was delicious and the Chef Varry outdid himself with some special Filipino dishes for us (one of our party was born in the Philippines and had some favorite traditional Filipino foods, and he made a point of working them into the menu). Those special menu items really added to our experience, thank you Chef! Max and King at the bar were rockstars. King always had our special tea ready for us after the first dive of the day, special art on the coffees and was just a pleasure to talk to. We were glad he was able to join us on a dive since he recently got certified, and he found us a blue ring octopus! Max made us some yummy cocktails (calamansi and vodka - yum!) and was super fun to hang out with at the bar. We rarely even made it a few steps into the restaurant before we were being greeted by name and asked what we wanted to drink. More on Albert below. :)
Spa
Cute, Gail and Wilma delivered some amazingly relaxing experiences. I had prebooked a massage with Gail our day of arrival and it was so great after the long travel from the US. AT the end of the trip I booked a hair treatment and massage with Cute to cap off the amazing trip and it was SO relaxing. Highly recommend - doing a back to back hair treatment and massage meant I had 2.5 hours of absolutely NOTHING but relaxing and enjoying the treatments.
Management - Albert
He was the highlight staff member of our stay I think. Because the resort wasn’t super busy, he was able to spend a little more time chatting with us and it was a hoot. We so enjoyed our chats. Of course, his service was top notch too. But he made a point of working with the chef and kitchen to make our stay memorable (including asking for a special ice cream flavor just for us, a cake for a birthday we were celebrating, and a special lunchtime dessert *wink wink*, etc). We came for the diving, but the staff and Albert made for a very fun topside experience too. Thank you Albert and I hope your puppies are doing well!
Management - Cedric
Asst resort manager and he was ON TOP of things. Constantly checking in (without being a bother) to make sure everything was going well.
Management - Junnar
Dive shop manager - best in the biz. We knew we didn’t have to worry about a thing, he was around quite often overseeing things, the schedule, etc. Such a sweet guy.
Management - Owners Gordon and Andy
Both were on site for part of our trip. We had met Andy before on two previous trips, but this was a first to meet Gordon. It was great to see them working in the dining area obviously very hands on owners who care a lot. Andy dove with us a few afternoons which was fun. Thank you to both of you for creating such a sanctuary that is Atlantis.
Reservations - Emily
Emily did a phenomenal job with our special requests prior to arriving making sure our extra luggage was taken care of, pre-booked appointments were done, and then made sure we had all the info for arriving and departing in one succinct memo (which I absolutely adore so helpful for organizing things). We couldn’t have asked for easier step by step instructions and we appreciated her checking in prior to us leaving to make sure we were comfortable navigating between the Manila airport and Belmont Hotel. No detail was overlooked.
Dive staff
Oh my, I could write an absolute novel on how well this dive team works together and treats their customers to concierge diving. We knew several of the staff and after this trip feel like family. I hope they realize how wonderful each and every one of them are and how much we truly appreciate them. Side note, I love how they all tease each other it certainly looks like they all enjoy their jobs and their teammates.
As our ‘dive team’ that worked with us our entire stay, Jason, Genie and Mark were so much fun. Divemasters Jason and Genie worked hard to find the cool critters, helped us find our own critters to work on our ‘spotting’, having fun with us on the boat (a lot of teasing was going on :) ), and just overall was a perfect dive experience. They work so hard with our gear, it’s fantastic to not have to clean our own gear each day. the dive shop is set up with every amenity in mind.
The rest of the team, from the boat captains, to the guys who schlep the tanks to and from the boats to the dive shop, to the fill station workers, and all the other dive staff who we interacted with in between dives, you are all simply so wonderful. Thank you for the little surprise at the end of our trip and for having so much fun with us.
PS. WHAAAARFFFFFIIIII! AAAAAANNNNNGGGGIIIEEEEE! :) )
Side note, we got to see the dive team jump into action with a small medical emergency and they were so fast, so quick to respond. All was resolved quickly, but while it was hard to see us have an emergency, it felt really good to know they were so fast to respond.
Lastly, we had two minor health issues that required a doctor visit to the resort - so so easy and reasonable cost wise two. Thank you to the Dr. for working us in so fast to relieve our issues!
Excursions
We tried out the twin waterfalls tour on our last day before flying out, and it did not disappoint. Was a relaxing scenic van ride, the waterfalls were beautiful, and of course we had to swim in them! Hit the hot springs after that for a quick dip and some snacks, then to the WW2 museum (very cool) and a souvenir shop. We really enjoyed the excursion.
All in all, it just keeps getting better and better each trip we make to Atlantis. Next time we’re gonna do a half and half trip and spend a few days in Puerto Galera since we haven’t yet. We’re already looking at calendars so we can get our fifth trip booked.
We love you all and send prayers for you for all the good things until we meet again! (And again, if I missed naming ANYONE, it’s purely by accident. I tried very hard to learn all of your names just like you learn ours!)
We stayed here with friends for 10 days.
Resort: The resort is lush and beautiful, but the diving is where it's at. Rooms are good size and comfortable. Our bed was on the firmer side, but that was perfect for us. Nice hot showers, double-sink and bathroom amenities (soap, shampoo/conditioner, body wash). I would say the only negative for us was lack of storage/dresser or hanging space for clothes (just a few hangers). You make it work, after all it is a dive trip.
Dining: Great selection of food, sometimes hard to choose what to have. Often times I asked for half-portion or hubby and I shared a meal, but no sharing on the dessert. They had a Filipino BBQ Buffet our last night at the resort, including lechon! The barista was amazing, loved the daily hot ginger tea with honey and calamansi; in general everyone in the dining room, manager, chef, barista, all servers were wonderful.
Diving:
WOW is all I can say! I knew they had muck-diving and didn't really know what to expect. Saw so many critters I've never seen before. Too many frogfishes and nudibranchs to count. Many different octopi and oh, the huge turtles! Other highlights were flamboyant cuttlefish, harlequin sweetlips, ornate ghost pipefish and seahorses! Of course we had amazing dive guides/masters, I think their masks had magnifying glass in them :) How they find the tiniest critters/fishes amazed me!
Spa: If you can squeeze time it, I highly recommend it!
I want to thank our friends Joe and Angie for inviting us and for everyone at Atlantis Resort for such a wonderful experience!!!
